This course provides an applied introduction to key issues in financial reporting, financial statement analysis, and firms’ capital structures. As a result, program participants will better understand the main outputs of the financial accounting process, be able to evaluate a firm’s financial position and performance, and make informed business decisions to enhance corporate value creation.

Financial Statement Analysis for Non-Financial Managers

Business decision makers are surrounded with concepts and terminology from financial statements such as gross profit margin, operating cycle, net operating assets, financial leverage, liquidity, solvency. This course provides an applied introduction to key issues in financial reporting, financial statement analysis, and firms’ capital structures. As a result, program participants will better understand the main outputs of the financial accounting process, be able to evaluate a firm’s financial position and performance, and make informed business decisions to enhance corporate value creation.

The program will start with an introduction to financial accounting terminology and the four major financial statements: Statement of Financial Position (Balance Sheet), Statement of Profit or Loss (Income Statements), Statement of Changes in Equity, and Statement of Cash Flows. Then, the program will introduce key tools sophisticated users of financial reports employ to analyze a firm’s profitability, productivity, and risk.
The program will implement various tools on international as well as local companies (e.g., Air Astana, Halyk Bank, Kazakhtelecom, RG Brands) and discuss common mistakes made by companies in their capital structure choices.

4 days of interactive online sessions in English with simultaneous translation into Russian, group assignments, and analysis of financial statements of real-world (local and international) firms.

Doron Israeli

PhD, Associate Professor

PhD in Business Administration and MS in Statistics from Stanford University
BA in Economics, Accounting, and Management from Tel-Aviv University (summa cum laude)


Prof. Israeli’s research focuses on the role of financial reporting in capital markets and the effects of capital markets frictions and human cognitive constraints on stock pricing efficiency and corporate investment policy.
Prof. Israeli has vast experience in the corporate world. He is a CPA (Israel). Prior to starting his PhD studies at Stanford University, he worked in the Corporate Finance Division of Israel Securities Authority (ISA) and in the Professional Practice Department of Ernst & Young (EY), Israel.

Prof. Israeli's teaching interests include courses in Accounting, Econometrics, and Finance.
