This course will address fundamental issues principally at the team and individual levels. At the individual and team level, it helps to build the skills that effective managers need to implement their insights and decisions.

If you have ever asked questions such as, “how can I be more effective as a boss or a manager of a team?” or “what is the best way to motivate my team?” or “how can people in a team make better, more effective decisions?” then this course is for you. Drawing on the best research and practice available, the course intended to demystify effective team work and people management. We will cover key management concepts, such as motivation, power, decision making, and team development.

The course is designed to be participative and interactive. The class will include short lectures, participative in-class exercises, presentations, and mini-case discussions. At the end of the course, participants will be equipped with toolkit of useful concepts, approaches, strategies to improve their individual and team effectiveness. These tools will enable participants effectively “managing up [boss],” “managing down [subordinates],” “managing horizontally [colleagues]” within organizations.

Onajomo Akemu

Associate Professor in Strategy & Entrepreneurship

PhD in Management and Entrepreneurship, Rotterdam School of Management

Dr. Akemu received an MBA degree from London Business School and a M.Sc. degree in Petroleum Engineering from Imperial College London, further obtained his PhD degree in Management and Entrepreneurship from Rotterdam School of Management.

Dr Akemu's research and teaching focuses on decision making and strategy implementation within nascent entrepreneurial ventures; improving qualitative methodology; and managerial effectiveness in established organizations.

Prior to graduate studies, he worked in the international oil & gas industry and also advised start-up enterprises in the Netherlands.
