On the 1st of March 2017 Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Business hosted a panel discussion on Entrepreneurship in Kazakhstan.

During panel discussion Dr. Dmitry Khanin presented results of Global Report of Global entrepreneurship monitor (GEM) 2016/17 and GEM Kazakhstan National Report 2015/2016 revealing some achievements and challenges of entrepreneurship in the world and in Kazakhstan. The panel evolved around discussing state of entrepreneurship in a country with speakers commenting on the challenges from their perspective.
Rustam Zhursunov mentioned that GEM findings correlate with the results of the study made by NCE “Atameken” on business climate in Kazakhstan. He suggested that decreasing role of state in the economy through privatization, broadening of funding opportunities for entrepreneurs, reducing tax burden, as well as promoting positive image of entrepreneurs in a society will encourage entrepreneurial activity in Kazakhstan.
Aziza Shuzheyeva also commented on the issues mentioning the decrease of entrepreneurial activity in Kazakhstan evident from decreased spending on advertising. Ms. Shuzheyeva proposed to develop business education and encourage creativity, especially among youth.
On the other hand, speakers mentioned some areas which have potential to grow. According to Adil Nurgozhin e-commerce and other branches of digital economy has been growing despite crisis. These global trends should be taken into consideration by local entrepreneurs to further develop their business.
