ABSTRACT: The article explores the phenomenon of organizational identity formation using the context of international talent attraction in French startup ecosystem. It studies how organizational identity is formed, and why do organizations choose to form multiple identities. In the earlier discussions scholars have researched formation of organizational identity by studying the external and internal influences separately and focused on benefits of multiple identities on attracting and retaining talent. This article theoretically contributes to organizational identity theory by proposing a conceptual model of organizational identity formation through internalizing the external influences. It also sheds light on negative implications of multiple identities on attracting and retaining talent. Furthermore, through the lens of organizational identity theory, it explains the phenomenon of international talent attraction in French tech startups. More generally, the study extends the literature on talent management by showing how identity formation can impact and be impacted by talent attraction.
