Panel discussion on entrepreneurship in Kazakhstan at NU GSB

On February 25, 2022, the Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Business is hosting a panel discussion on entrepreneurship in Kazakhstan, which will present the GEM National Report "Kazakhstan 2020-2021", as well as the results of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) 2021/2022 report, that was presented on February 10 at Expo 2020 in Dubai, UAE.

The national report “Kazakhstan 2020-2021” was prepared as part of the international research project “Global Entrepreneurship Monitor” (GEM) and is based on data from surveys and interviews collected in the Republic of Kazakhstan under the leadership of the Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Business, with the support of QazTrade Trade Policy Development Center and DATAmetrics LLP. The purpose of this report is to track the current state of entrepreneurship in Kazakhstan against the background of relevant comparison groups. Based on the data included in the National Report of Kazakhstan and national reports of other countries participating in the project the Global Report on Entrepreneurship Development in the world is formed.

Each year the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) project determines the state of entrepreneurship in more than 50 countries worldwide, with national teams conducting surveys and interviews with more than 2,000 experts and entrepreneurs in their countries (about 200,000 worldwide).

In 2021, at least 2,000 respondents in each of 47 countries participated in the GEM adult survey. According to the global report, in 18 of the 47 countries in 2021, more than 50% of entrepreneurs agreed that starting a business had become more difficult. In 2020, that number was nearly double (33 of 46).

The Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Business is contributing to the assessment of the state of entrepreneurship around the world. Kazakhstan’s national team collected data on entrepreneurship in Central Asia’s leading economy and compared the results with neighboring and other comparable countries, the region and the rest of the world. This is the sixth annual report published by the Kazakhstan team at Nazarbayev University.

Representatives from government agencies, small and medium businesses, research centers and consulting companies will participate in the panel session.

In addition, the event will feature a new research center at the NUGSB - The Nazarbayev University’s Research Centre for Entrepreneurship (NURCE). NURCE aspires to become a center of research excellence in the field of entrepreneurship. It will strive to develop strong external connections with regional, national and international enterprise research in universities, economic development, business, and other networks. NURCE also plans periodic seminars, podcasts, workshops and symposia on topics of interest to scholars and practitioners of entrepreneurship.

If you are interested to know the opinion of experts on what trends exist in the world and what Kazakhstan is doing to develop entrepreneurship, we invite you to attend the panel discussion.
