The latest issue of Ulytau - “Many Paths, One Impact: How NUGSB Strengthens NU’s Global Standing.”

Ulytau is designed as a platform to showcase the diverse ways in which our faculty contribute to Nazarbayev University’s mission—through research, teaching, engagement, and collaboration. It offers a space for reflection on how academic work connects to society, supports student learning, and strengthens NU’s global standing.

The theme of this issue is “Many Paths, One Impact: How NUGSB Strengthens NU’s Global Standing.” The articles highlight three complementary dimensions of our work:

  • Societal Impact – how research and engagement address real-world challenges and connect NU to communities and policy.
  • Teaching and Learning – how innovative programs and industry partnerships enrich the student experience.
  • Scholarly Excellence – how rigorous research and doctoral training enhance NU’s academic visibility.

Together, these contributions illustrate that the reputation of a university is built through many forms of effort and impact.

This issue was thoughtfully guest edited by Tom Vinaimont, whose commitment helped bring together the voices of our faculty in a coherent and engaging way. The magazine continues to be edited by Shumaila Yousafzai, Professor of Entrepreneurship and Director of NURCE.

I would like to thank all colleagues who contributed to this edition and invite you to explore the reflections and stories it contains.

We hope you enjoy reading it.

Best regards,
