Seminar "Financial Statement Analysis for Non-Financial Managers"

Business decision makers are surrounded with concepts and terminology from financial statements such as gross profit margin, operating cycle, net operating assets, financial leverage, liquidity, solvency. This course provides an applied introduction to key issues in financial reporting, financial statement analysis, and firms’ capital structures. As a result, program participants will better understand the main outputs of the financial accounting process, be able to evaluate a firm’s financial position and performance, and make informed business decisions to enhance corporate value creation.

The program will start with an introduction to financial accounting terminology and the four major financial statements: Statement of Financial Position (Balance Sheet), Statement of Profit or Loss (Income Statements), Statement of Changes in Equity, and Statement of Cash Flows. Then, the program will introduce key tools sophisticated users of financial reports employ to analyze a firm’s profitability, productivity, and risk.

The program will implement various tools on international as well as local companies (e.g., Air Astana, Halyk Bank, Kaspi Bank, Kazakhtelecom) and discuss common mistakes made by companies in their capital structure choices.
